October Reflection

This is our fourth year as an art studio and our fourth autumn feeling the ebb and flow of slowing with the season and the desire to always be working on new things. Our business and involvement with our community continue to grow and adapt, and we are privileged to be growing with it. Autumn is a time of reflection and contemplation for many of us, and I have certainly always found it to be a time of examining what matters most. While we do fewer shows this time of year, we are busy creating new work, scheduling classes, and reconnecting with friends and our community. It is a time that makes me extremely grateful for our roots in this amazing place.

Art Shows

October is already flying by and this weekend James will be set up at Apple Fest in Charlevoix with his incredible photography. We’re also only a few weeks away from the Holiday Artists Market at The Dennos Museum in Traverse City where Elizabeth will be showing her watercolor and mixed media pieces. We hope to see you there and share our newest works with you!

New Photographs

James will be presenting two brand-new photographs this weekend at Apple Fest. Pictured above is his piece “The Breakwall” a star trail photo taken over several hours in Petoskey, MI. In addition to his constant quest to capture the stars amidst notably Northern Michigan landscapes, James has been up early many mornings following the fog. Through his new photograph “Apricot Dawn” he tells a story of the slow waking of the Jordan Valley on an early autumn day.

Watercolor WIP

Elizabeth has been working on two new landscape pieces, both of which she hopes to finish in time for her upcoming holiday shows. Pictured above is her latest multimedia piece. While it is still a work in progress, she is close enough to the finish line that the piece has earned its title “Gathering Light.” She is proud to have captured a reflection of the magic she feels in the safety of the woods.

Below is a piece that is still in the early stages of completion. It portrays a Lake Michigan bay on a hazy gray morning. Elizabeth is excited to see the personality and mood of the piece continue to develop. Stay tuned to follow the progress!
